My time as a junior high school student, this semester, and this blog are all coming to an end. This was such a heartbreaking journey. We've all made it through the ups and downs, never-ending struggles, and unexpected quizzes, and are now prepared to enter senior high school. But before we continue, let's go down memory lane and reflect on all the fun times we had. During this school year, I formed many bonds with classmates and acquaintances, including friendships with people I never imagined I would be close to. As a student at Marconi, I will miss all the times we would simply laugh at a problem, all the times we would tease one another, and all the funny and gleeful moments. I'll never forget the lessons we shared with one another, the mischief we got up to, or any of the outings to galas and practices.  My sincere gratitude goes out to all of my teachers, classmates, friends, strangers, and trainers for helping to make my final year in the JHS worthwhile. And with tha...

Farsighted Vision

In life, you can't really say, "In the future, I'll be this and that," because life isn't as simple as knowing what you want to be or what you want to happen and expecting it to happen just because you want it. Things always don't go according to plan. Some people might think I'm thinking too pessimistically, but I'm just being realistic. The chances of the events you want to happen happening are not always 100%, but you can do your part to make sure that percentage is higher. I, like many people, have dreams and desires. In the next 10 years, I envision myself as a licensed nurse in a different country with a nice, cozy home that has a vegetable garden. Though it's nice to think about the future, I'd rather start working on my present to actually attain the future I want. As of now, I am pushing myself to be more diligent with my studies. I'm deciding where to go to college and starting to make my plan from A to Z. Attaining my pictur...

The root bears the fruit

Our society is horrid, with many social issues unaddressed and countless crimes seen in the news every day. The world seems to be built on greed, materialism, and addiction. We all want to change this, to make our world a better place, and to restore humanity, but how can we do this? When we begin with ourselves, we can bring about change. While it's simple for us to call attention to the wrongdoings of others, we frequently overlook our own transgressions. It's time to stop acting like hypocrites and acknowledge our own shortcomings. When we ourselves are incapable of change, how can society be changed? You can't call yourself a good person if you support women's right to be proud of their bodies while bullying someone for their weight. Your righteousness is only based on the circumstance if that's the case. Overall, it's clear that in order to affect change in others, change must first occur in oneself. You must learn how to change yourself if you want to cha...

Superwoman

Through the darkest of days, through the problems that hindered you like mountains, through the sea of problems, who was there to keep you afloat? The one person who never left your side, the woman who provided you with light to be able to see through the darkness. That person, of course, is your mother, a strong and fearless woman. Much like the superheroes we used to watch on television, in our lives, in many different ways, our mother is our superhero. On this momentous day, we celebrate all the mothers out there. This day serves as a reminder to all of how privileged we are to have our mothers in our lives. They are not only the foundation of our lives but also the foundation of our society. Without good mothers, what would humanity be like today? Without guidance, where would we be right now? And yes, sometimes they don't always show their love and affection, but know that in every second of every day, they care for you. And not every mother will be perfect or know what to d...

Araw ng mga Manggagawa

Many of us young people are unaware of the significance of Labor Day, what it stands for, or why it is pertinent to everyone's lives. Without understanding why it is a holiday in the first place, many people treat this day like any other regular holiday. Here are some details about the significance of May 1st and why it is celebrated. According to the Official Gazette of the Philippines, the first labor union in the nation protested against American imperialism and capitalism and demanded independence for the nation. The group marched to Malacanang, where the American leaders were lodged, from Plaza Mariones in Tondo, Manila, according to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). The protest is regarded as one of the first to occur on Manila's streets. Finally, the Philippine Assembly passed a law establishing May 1 as a national holiday in 1908. We ought to remember the sacrifices made for the people of this nation, as many Filipinos fought for their righ...

Rip Current

This quarter was.....a struggle to say the least. I knew life ain't cupcakes and rainbows but nothing could've prepared me for the reality check this quarter was cooking up for me. Reality struck me so hard across the face, that till this day i'm still on the floor.  When I reflect on everything that transpired this quarter, I wonder how unlucky I had to be for it all to occur so quickly. I've never been under as much stress over so many different things. I was so stressed out that I was unable to cope with additional forms of stress. The waves lapping at the shoreline are a metaphor for my problems; they wet my feet, get sand under my toe nails, and make them feel wrinkled. To put it another way, they make me feel very depressed aka big sad. I do, however, have the ability to not feel overly depressed by simply making the best of the situation. It's one useful thing I learned this quarter: how to make the best of the worst. And even though this quarter put me throu...

The Great Week

One of the most important religious occasions in the Philippines is Holy Week.  It is known as the Great Week in the Greek and Roman liturgical texts because God performed great deeds during this week.During this seven-day festival, Filipinos have the chance to ponder their faith, remember Jesus Christ's death, and show their devotion through a variety of customs and practices.  Beginning on Palm Sunday, which celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, Holy Week in the Philippines officially begins. Filipinos attend mass on this day and are given palm fronds as a memento of the event. On Holy Monday, a lot of believers visit churches and take part in the "Visita Iglesia," which entails stopping by seven churches to pray and consider the Stations of the Cross. Holy Week is a time for Filipinos to spend time with their families and friends in addition to participating in religious rituals. Many people use this time to travel and visit family members who live i...
